Happy Turkey Day Norm to you and the Mrs. I just saw a segment on Nightline about the Huffington Post and it looks like they’re expanding and ready to hire investigative journalists. I think you’d be a great fit. Whether you investigate the change of the shop owners in your neighborhood or the oxymoron of the main stream media (“Survival jobs are bad for your career prospects. Yeah, well, so are layoffs… “), I think you’d be a great asset.

Well, there’s my two cents for the day. Gotta catch some zzzzzzzzzzzs now so I’m ready to experience FREE stuff on Black Friday (a.k.a. window shopping for the unemployed).

    All the best,

    Tina

OK. Here’s the deal. I love your blog and sometimes, like now, feel like I can just talk. So….

I was laid off Jan. 2009. I have three neighbors that border my property line that were all laid off within the same 90 days…one in the same week.

But we get by. Find a way to pay our mortgage. I have kids who watch our neighbors. Tonight I was asked by my 11 yr old “what is bankruptcy?”. Crap. That’s not us. It’s the other neighbors where both the mom and dad still have jobs.

I don’t know how much longer my savings will last us. But for my kids to be upset for a two income family still working kills me! I guess it means I’ve done a great job shielding the realities of our situation. And truth be known, we’re ready to start year two of single mom’s layoff…I was smart…but either not smart enough to get a new job, or too smart to get a new job. But we’re ok, no bankruptcy. No judgment intended if anyone else must go that route. Honestly, wish I claimed it years ago, instead I cashed in my retirement to pay off my debt when I got laid off so I only need to worry about mortgage and monthly bills. Smart or stupid I don’t know yet.

But it KILLED me tonight to hear those questions about one of the few couples in our neighborhood that both still have jobs. “Mommy, what is bankruptcy? Will we do that?” NO. We might lose our house, but we won’t go bankrupt. Couldn’t say that though…but it killed me. Momentarily. Tomorrow is another day and I believe in Annie, “The sun’ll come out..TOMORROW…”.

Keep the blog up and running Norm…we need it! Thanks, Tina
