Twittering my life away (2009-04-05)

  • Just added myself to the twitter directory under: #unemployment #layoffs #blogs because that’s how I roll. #
  • It’s 60 degrees outside and the heat is on in my building. I love paying to be uncomfortable in my own home. #
  • Doing taxes while unemployed really makes me feel like a productive member of society. #unemployment #
  • How did Neko Case get to be so damn talented? Maybe someone will pay me to listen to her albums all day. Any takers? #unemployment #
  • I can’t get that Subway $5 footlong ad out of my head. It’s driving me crazy. Even having Subway for lunch didn’t help. #
  • Waiting for wifey so I can do the laundry. Unemployment is so much fun. #unemployment. #
  • Is Dr. Zizmor’s business down because of the economy and unemployment? #unemployment #
  • Spring is definitely coming. #
  • The Wedding Singer makes me laugh every time I see it. I guess that’s good because it’s on just about every night. #
  • The Colombian bakery dropped their cookie prices. That might be the only thing that’s gotten cheaper since I was laid off. #unemployment #
  • Well, that career fair was a waste of time. #
  • Why am I inside on such a beautiful day? It’s not like I have a job or anything. #unemployment #
  • A stereo shop is opening around the corner, 3 storefronts away from a stereo shop that just closed. That’s some smart business. #
  • Going to career consulting session. What’s with all the rain? #
  • Mmm, mmm, pho for dinner. And because I live in Jackson Heights, it will cost like $.35. #

Times are changing, brother. If you are good at getting the job (any job) done, then you will find a job that needs to be done. It may not be in the scope you are looking through, so put that scope down and just go with iron sights.

I am betting that marketing for internet firms is not going to be a growth fiels for a while. Look for firms that do something that everyone needs, identify a job that they need done, and propose to them that YOU be the one to do it. Be willing to work for less money, maybe a lot less, than you made. Past a certain relatively low threshold, money is just lettuce anyhow.

    Hit it hard,

I’m still a beginner in the working world, but i came across this blog through a new york times article. I have to say that I really enjoy your way of communicating what’s going on in your head. You must be able to utilize that somehow in a career…

Thanks for the compliment, Melanie. I’d love to get paid to talk about what’s going on in my head. That would be an awesome job. At this point, I’d settle for a paycheck. Good luck with your new career.
